LOL. Oh I'm sorry that I showed pictures of sock torture without 'splaining them.

Those bright orange things are double-pointed needles ("dpns") used to construct the socks with. [Yes needles, pointed at both ends!!!] That's only one of the several ways to torture, er, make socks.
