My Lifestyle and buying my first kilt

I hike, camp, baja racing, work on my baja, boating. Well you get the picture, I get down right nasty-dirty. LOL I have been wanting to get some kilts for a few months now. I really can't seem to find what I am looking for. I want something that is easy to wash and take care of. I don't mind a little mant. but dry cleaning is a bit much for me.LOL I am full time Rver so going to a drycleaner is a bit of a pain. My last post was about 4 or 5 months ago then I got hurt in a small accident. So I am starting my search again for a kilt that will fit my needs. My goal is for a nice kilt to go out to the pubs and still be able to do the things I like doing outdoors. Thanks Todd

You came to the right place.
I'd suggest either Stillwater kilts (thrifty or standard) or SportKilt. All are reasonably priced, and all are easy to take care of because they're synthetic.

There are tons more knowledgeable, experienced folks than me who will chime in, I'm sure, but there's my 2 cents.

If you're looking for tartan, probably swk or a usakilts in pv. both easier to wash, etc.
Solids, possibly utilikilts or something? Not my department

To the Original Poster I'd say a Sport Kilt, Stillwater Thrifty or perhaps a USA Casual, would be your best bet.

If you are looking for some "off the rack" choices:Stillwater Kilts
 Sport Kilt
 Amerikilt
 Utilikilt
USA Kilts--they are a made to order shop, but do have very nice "off the rack" casuals in a limited number of tartans. You have to call them to order one.

Browse these sites and see if you find something you like. Good luck!

I'm very happy with my Sport Kilt, and they have great service. It's PV (polyester visconse). They suggest dry cleaning if you get the leather straps and buckles, however, I've had no problem putting it through the washing machine.
USA Casual looks like another winner. They have a coating on the PV that they claim reduces pilling.

Stillwater also has excellent service . Their Standard Kilt is acrylic, not PV. Their Thrifty does not have sewn down pleats at the hips.

Off-the rack may be okay, depending on what you want, and your navel to knee-cap measurement. For me, at about 6'3" or 6'4", a swk is a tad short for a traditional rise, but is fine for a kilt to sit at my pants-waist.

Check that measurement, and decide which sort of rise you'd prefer.
