When my oldest girl was born, we were living in California. At the time, the state was collecting a form (not tied to the newborn's name) with various data on the newborns, including "ethnicity". The form gave us a space about 30 characters long. I questioned how I was to fill out the form, since she is Welsh, Scottish, Irish, English, American Indian, Palestinian, Lithuanian, German, Russian, Ashkenazi Jew. And that's just what we know about! Since I claim the United States Marine Corps as my clan, I don't worry too much about where someone's family comes from, it's where you are going that counts.
