However, I have to agree with Martin about dancing - no matter what form of dancing (with the possible exception of Clog Dancing!) - in boots. I would be all too aware of the hurt I might cause others on the dance floor! [...]

Thank your for your kind words, especially coming from you guys that wear your kilts with a style that many admire.

Indeed, incorporating the kilt in with my usual clothes is a goal; mix and match and color-coordinate the kilts with what I already have. Blues, blacks, browns, reds -- lots of possibilities. Casual dressing is the norm for me. Thanks for the encouragement, gentlemen.

Hamish, I see your point about the potential to hurt others with boots. When I do my country/western dancing (two-step, swing, line), these boots are tame compared to the leather-soled cowboy boots that are preferred. Those can be pointy-tipped and usually have heels made of solid wood compared to the rubber in my roper boots. In my square dancing - people wear anywhere from bowling shoes to boots, even sandals sometimes and the movements are less furious. I do not wear kilts, though, in my latin dancing, especially when I teach it (I specialize in cuban-style of salsa dancing) -- I haven't crossed that line yet; and I usually wear just the suede-soled dance shoes not too different from ghillie brogues. Actually, I have used all sorts of shoes in my salsa dancing and have used these boots recently to no ill effects whatsoever and it is convenient for me overall. If you see what shoes the women wear, you might be horrified at the thought of being stepped on with long and pointy heels.

I have, however, little knowledge of Scottish Country Dancing - is the sword dance a part of it? I've only seen the sword dance on YouTube and more recently at my first RennFaire. These boots simply will not allow the foot movements required for the dance. So, overall, I find that my boots are most convenient and effective for the kinds of dances that I engage in. I would love to take lessons in SCD/sword dance. I wonder where in the area ...
