I too have had problems dealing with this company. Several months ago I attempted to buy one of the casual kilts advertised on their website, but first had a few questions about it and the tartan. After an exchange of emails, my questions were no closer to being answered definitively than they had been at the beginning, so I decided not to purchase the kilt. Customer service didn't seem to be their top priority.

Gilmore,
Are you sure you are talking about the same company?
Fraser & Kirkbright is a weaving Co.
They don't sell Kilt of any kind.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

This forum must be among his best set of customers.
I just relieved him of the last 2 meters of Ulster! (I hope, judging from the last bit...)

Oops, wrong thread. You are right, it's another Canadian company with a double-barrelled name that is the subject of another current thread.

Alex
I am sorry that Gordon's ordering system got screwed up and you got aced out of what we all thought was a great deal. I too felt that way for a bit, as you can tell from my previous posts, especially in light of the fact that I was the first to see the advert on Saturday and consider posting it then, but did not as when I saw it they had not listed it as single or double width, so I instead sent an email to verify that before posting. Instead of getting an email back I found out when someone else posted the next day, which is when I first offered to go in halfsies with anyone, and got a PM from Thistledown offering me half of his 8 meters. Although there was some confusion around that deal it, as played out in the earlier posts, worked out that I got that half after all. Currently it is in Thistledowns hands being sent directly to Barb T for her to work her magic on it for both T-down and myself.
As I stated in a previous post I like the tartan and would enjoy having a kilt in it, but I am not married to the idea, and if you have a strong desire for it I would like to help you out and help make Gordon's original then retracted sale to you good by offering you my half of Thistledown's 8 yards, at the costs he is/was going to sell it to me for, even up (fabric plus shipping). Only issue is that it is on its way to Barb T for kiltmaking, and I do not know if that would be your wishes or not. If not you would have to arrange with Barb to ship it back across the pond to you for you to do with as you wish.
This not an idle gesture---I am quite serious, so please feel free to take me up on it. I have some other projects in the works and this one only became acute becasue the tartan suddenly became available at a great price at an unexpected time. I am relatively new to the kilt world, and already have several, and several more on the way without counting the Maple Leaf, so I am quite contented either way. I would look at it as one xmarker offering another a gesture of friendship with no strings attached, other than I would like to see you in a picture wearing that kilt with with a big smile when alll is said and done. That would be reward enough for me. Let me know and I will work it out with T-down and Barb T.

Why don't you guys split it 3 ways, 1 8yard kilt, and 2 4 yrd box pleats? Then you all get a kilt. Heck, give the three jobs to Barb T and she makes out too!

Great thought, but I am not in the market for a 4yd box, and I think Thistledown deserves his 8 yd knife pleat, since he was first to call F&K to put in his order. I would rather see Alex get his 8 yarder too--would make me much more satisfied. really

That's a shame I was hoping to see a Maple Leaf in a box pleat. I know Splash-4 was working on one but I haven't see the results.

I think there are pics posted elsewhere, if memory serves (which it doesn't always). I will eventually be working up a MLBP but don't hold your breath, many other tasks between here and there!

I believe that the mill that Paul mentioned, Marton Mills, is located in Yorkshire and has it's material woven domestically. I have dealt with this mill and had great service. I would recommend them to anyone. They do ask that you inspect the cloth when you receive it and contact them if there is a problem. I have never had to do that as I have found I have found their product top notch.
I have never dealt with F&K, but I have always heard positive comments about them. I don't like ordering material online and would prefer to speak with the mill directly (which means sometimes getting up rather early to call due to time difference) so I can confirm they have the material or get a first hand opinion on the wait time.
I hope Alex can find some MLT tartan. It is a gorgeous one to wear.
