The reason I have a squared-off shape on the flap is because I do a lot of glueing and folding to illiminate raw edges and keep it neat. I need a triple thickness of leather here, and making it rounded would look really messy. My very first sporran attempt had a rounded flap, and the only reason it has not been chucked in the bin is because I'm framing it for posterity when my empire takes off.
Yip Kerr, it's glued as well as riveted. With the strongest contact glue I can find that ISN'T solvent based or highly toxic. Trying to be kind to the environment and all that! (And also, my littlest one is usually running around when I'm sporran-making, so I don't want to inflict glue fumes on him).
If anyone wants to see more pics, just click on the link for my website and go to the gallery page. This sporran also has a handy internal pocket.
Thanks for all your comments, keep 'em coming!
