My dad used to tell me that he managed to miss out on a lot of lousy details in the Navy because (1) he always walked briskly everywhere he went, like he had something to do, somewhere to go, and (2) he often carried a clipboard because there's nothing that says, "I can't right now -- I'm in the middle of something important," like a clipboard does.

In honor of my dear departed father, I encourage you to walk with swagger and take pictures left and right so you look like an official photog.

Crack me up DWFII!! I could use the remote trigger to take pics but I'm afraid the REAL police might think I was trying to take upkilt shots and get arrested!!!

And for sure Phogfan, Lesson #1 in corporate America is never ever ever leave your office, cubical, workstation, without some papers in your hand...ever ever....otherwise you're easy pickin's to get asked or told to do something else...

    Back to googling....

I'm thinking you've been thinking too much, I would not worry about it, you have a great camera there just enjoy it.

As a fellow photog for more than 30 years and user of Canon Digital Rebels for the last several years there is no good way to hide the camera while keeping it out to use quickly. But as experienced photogs will tiell you, the less your bag looks like a camera bag the less you look like a photographer or tourist. I would suggest some sort of tartan or celtic themed shoulder bag, leather or tartan material with some sort of secure but subtle closure on the top----not unlike a big ladies slouch (carry everything but the kitchen sink) purse. Just make sure if you have several lenses or other loose stuff in it that it is all padded individually to keep from tearing up the camera or lenses. You just want something easy to get into but not so obviously related to a camera (like something in cordura saying Canon or LowePro on it).

Beneficial side effect to this is it is easier to get close to people and take candids when you don't look like a pro photog, and, since your bag doesn't look like a camera case it is less likely to get ripped off.

**looks at a Digital Rebel... then looks at his 4x5 view camera....and shrugs**

In my experience (taking full note, I use a view camera, which is not something you hang around your neck) people either back away, fearing the lens, or jump right in front.

    Hey cousin Glenn,

Me not worry...??? What a concept....I'm not sure I can wrap my mind around it.

Thanks for the tips guys. I do have a NativEarth big sporran/possibles bag/purse but its too narrow for the camera...had pondered that.

Maybe I can design, make, find a beaded or decorated bib to hang over the camera...

    Or, as suggested...maybe just...ummm...gasp...forget it...naw...gotta be something...

Phogfan and you have it right if you act like you are supposed to be doing it you can get away with almost anything, case in point I spent a day on a huge construction site doing exactly nothing but pulling the tape in and out of a tape measure. Just order a nice strap or have one beaded and go on, any issues can be delt with with a harsh look (the offenders will assume this posture)
