Many years ago I took my trusty Minolta to a concert. I had cut down an old toy gun and mounted the camera and Flash to the stock. I used a pistol grip with cable. It had been raining that day, so I covered the rig with a jacket. On the rig I had mounted my 500 m lens and a 2x converter. Looooong lens woth a 4 inch barrel on gunstock. Guard at gate was local cop (off duty and unarmed.) When I removed the jacket, he about wet himself. By the time he patted himself down looking for a weapon to use on me, I had allayed his fears and told him it was a camera, not a bazooka. I scared him p**pless. Impressed a lot of people. Including the guy who stole my rig. Oh, well........

In my experience (taking full note, I use a view camera, which is not something you hang around your neck) people either back away, fearing the lens, or jump right in front.
AHHHH a fellow large formater!!

Hey Ron,
If you really wanted to make a production of this, you could get some sort of wood frame for the camera body and leather bellows for the lens and make it look sort-of Victorian? Then you could charge people for "period" pictures by the kilted photographer

Ron, what are you talking about?
You should be happy, having got a camera that is way better than any one that should fit into your sporran.

Well, perhaps I have it with big versus small cameras like some of you have it with expensive versus cheap kilts. After all, it is simply about needs that should be satisfied, isn’t it?

Ron, like Greg says, don't worry about it. Quite frequently, I can be seen with a Nikon F4s body with a 300mm Nikkor attached to it, whilst kilted. That combination is quite large. Much larger than the Canon EOS Rebel XSi and other Rebel models.
My usual bag is a Domke F-2 bag... Fits most everything I need to get the job done when I'm out shooting.

*edit* here's a pic of me kilted, with a motor-driven Nikon F3 in my hands.

Ron, do you remember when you first went out kilted, and how awkward it felt? You probably noticed it a lot more than most folks around you, and you certainly thought about it a lot more than any of them did. But eventually you got over the awkwardness and just enjoyed being kilted.
The same thing will happen with the camera. Take it, use it, and eventually you'll get past that awkwardness and just enjoy it.
At least, that's my experience, with both kilts and cameras.

Field, I have two, a Seneca Uno (which I had to modify to use modern 4x5 holders) and a Kodak Premo, which needs a replacement ground glass due to an accident. Will be using the Premo at my sisters wedding in 2.5 weeks, along with my Yashica Electro35. Wish they had Ektar 100 in 4x5 tho, I love the look of that stuff.
