I'd have to say though I really do loathe the prevalence of White Hose, if you like the look go ahead and wear them. However if you get an opportunity go ahead and wear a pair of Argyll or Diced hose. From someone who has had the chance to go to events with Diced and Argyll hose I just have to say this one touch elevates the outfit.

..........THEIR SOCKS
or their hat....or their shirt, or their shoelaces or whatever..
is INSANE.
Chill. Let it go. It's only socks.

Agree. I must say that I have never gone up to anyone in white socks and told them that they needed a little color in their life.
Alan H, please sit down and remain calm. As far as I can see, you are the most upset person in this thread. In fact, yours was the first post I read in this thread where I detected irritation at the subject. You really don't have to read the thread if it it's going to upset you that others are passionate about such things. People sound off about opinions in regard to Scottish attire, and to disagree about such things is really not as serious as some things in the world. We'll grant you that. However, isn't that the point? We can argue about white hose, get very passionate about it, and then have a beer afterwards and be friends. This is, after all, a kilt forum. This isn't a religious or political forum, where things could really get heated. In a kilt forum people are bound to argue about things related to... well... the kilt.

There are some things I feel fairly strongly about with regard to appropriate attire, in general, and kits in particular, but, an interesting introductory article (and maybe some valid points) notwithstanding, white socks are not one of them. I don't wear them but I don't care...at all...who does.
I did think that the above comment was the best in the thread, however.

Even for a clothing-snob like me, this is a bit over the top.
