I'm a Glaswegian mutt. Father's side goes to Ayrshire for at least 2 generations. (Mother's side is cornish/northumbrian and possibly Irish.)

Thanks, though as I put later, I was getting a bit too churchy with the tartan as it is.

Is your surname Clark or does your family have connections with that surname or do you just want to add to a favourite kilt you now own because it was a Tartan you liked ? Has mentioned that surname does have connections with Clergy, but with a few Clans as well. Cameron (my favourite, I'm a Cameron), Chattan, Clark, MacPherson, and MacKintosh. Now what a minute, I missed your last post somehow looking back at what was already written. You picked Clan Cameron, GOOD CHOICE !!!

Surname is indeed Clark. the more I look at Cameron tartans the more I lik 'em.....

    Hello Tony,
Yes indeed, Cameron tartans are lovely. Are you planning on getting a kilt in one ? If so I would just like to add that the, Cameron of Lochiel, tartan is reserved strictly for our Chief and his immediate family. This is something we do take seriously has a Clan and it's Branches throughout the world. All other tartans are perfectly acceptable to wear and we would be honoured.

If it were me, and I was frae Glesca, I wouldn't wear the Cameron tartan. Obviously it's quite possible that some Camerons moved to Glesca, but again, with the connect to Ayrshire, I would probably not go with the Camerons.

I actually have a badge in my collection for a group called The Glasgow Society that was formed back in the '90s for people with the surname Glasgow and Glaswegians. It features "the bird that never flew" and the motto, "Lord Let Glasgow Flourish" on the buckle & strap.

    I don't think they're around anymore, though...

    Regards,

    Todd

I'm already pushing the boundaries of religion with the Clark/Clergy tartan so I'm going with the Cameron
    Haha! That's awesome!

I feel related -- our son's name is Tony Clark.

Indeed we have a variety of clans with which the Clark name has been associated. I think that the Clark Clan Crest on the Scots Connection is a misnomer in that Clark is not itself a Clan. That does give us a variety of choices.

I have an additional solution since my maternal grandmother was a MacRae. No doubt there.

    Good question, Tony!

If it were me, I would probably go with a "generic" badge, such as Gaelic Themes Lion Rampant or St. Andrew badge. Of course, I do have a Glasgow Badge.

I'll take a picture of it and post it in this thread.

Actually there is an important historical connection between Glasgow and Clan Cameron. In the rising of 1745/46 Bonnie Prince Charlie's army captured Glasgow and BPC had given the order that the city should be sacked and raised to the ground. Cameron of Locheil, head of Clan Cameron, persuaded BPC to leave the city in one piece as a friendly city would be a wise thing to have should the revolution be won. The city of Glasgow was saved and to this day the cathedral bells of Glasgow are rung whenever a Cameron of Locheil, Chief of Clan Cameron pays an official visit to the city, in recognition of that fact.

THANK YOU VERRA MUCH, JOCK SCOT !!!! I was going to raise that very point myself, but you did it for me. Only difference I would make is a correction in a wee little spelling typo. We usually call our Chief, Cameron of Lochiel.
