A Valentine's Day gift for me (and Jock Scot!)

Jamie, much as I am definitely NOT a hat chap, I have to admit that Star's new gift does suit you well, very well. In spite of what you, and other more knowledgeable folk than I, have to say on the matter, I still find the deerstalker a touch costumey - but then I feel the same about tweedy Inverness capes, although I do have a black nylon one** to keep the rain off (when I am in Scotland).

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have some English blood in my veins (and arteries) and that I have always lived almost as far as one can get from Scotland whilst remaining on the British mainland, but I do not recall ever seeing a deerstalker being worn down here - other than on a theatrical stage! Come to think about it, I do not recall ever seeing one being worn in Scotland either - but then I am not in the habit of stalking up there ....... or anywhere really. On the day I met Jock, he was sporting a fine Balmoral but nor was he stalking at the time (I believe he was on his way to the Bank actually!).

Seriously, it suits you Jamie and you wear it well - just don't expect to see me wearing one (unless I am giving one of my performances)!

Oh, I forgot the slip-ons.

Hmmmn. I appreciate the comfort of them, but I do not think they quite work with the traditional, tartan kilt. I do have several pairs, but I wear them only with the likes of my Utilikilts and especially when driving - they're perfect driving shoes.

Actually Hamish, there were four deer stalkers all wearing deer stalkers made of a rather fine estate tweed, if I may say so, just by the exit of the Commando memorial, when we were there!

Indeed they were. I rather think that they thought that I was going straight to the bank!
