I hope you enjoy making your kilt as much as I did mine. Barb & Elsie's book is great although I did have to puzzle over a few sentences. I put that down to my being English not American. Nevertheless, I found the book to be easy to follow and gave a great result.

I have to reiterate one point that Barb makes in the book. If you're not happy with the bit sewing you just did, rip it out and do it over. It's good advice.

I have been eyeing that light grey at F&K. Anxious to see how it turns out! Wonder if Big Mikey has any more pics? ;) Best of luck with your projects. I know your need for more time in the day, I still haven't started on my 20 oz. kilt. And I am bidding on more wool on ebay....I must be crazy!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I've seen that several places in fact, and on my last XKilt, not quite done so pictures come soon, I took out three pleats that hung wrong when I was nearly done and realigned them.

I've got a kilt in that light gray stuff, too. I bought it for *exactly* the same reason you did....practice before I bit off the "real" stuff. I also wanted to make a kilt pleated to sett, and that was going to be my first one.

I still have the kilt. Sure, it's a bit light, but I wear it around and it's served me well for 18 months. I figure I'll be able to wear it for 5-6 more years before it finally self-destructs.

ONe thing....look up how Matt Newsome does his under-apron straps. It's a TON easier than the sort-of-traditional way that Barb describes, and it looks great.

Looks like you're going to be busy for at least a day or two. Looking forward to seeing the photos.

Ok, so I cut the light grey this afternoon. I aim to have a presentable six yard tartan kilt of it by our Burns Supper on the 17th. Scooby has informed me that he will wear his blue denim kilt, but I need to make him his badger sporran in time; I plan to make him a hunter style with a leather cantle and the shoulder stripe from my Benji down the front.

    Two weeks??!!??

It's been a month, but a busy one, since this was taken at the NorCal Burns Supper. This is my grey fashion with Benji on the apron. Scooby is in all purchased goods for this night, although I did have to put a longer hip strap on the SWK heavy I bought off the closeout page. He wanted to wear it even though I didn't have time to hem it first(it came the day before). All the parts are cut for his badger stripe hunter sporran, I need to work on it this week so it's ready for beer(kilt) night on the 27th.

You did a nice job on that kilt, and I thought the Eisenhower jacket looked good with it.

    Second Badger Sporran (wip)

I have begun working in earnest on Scooby's new sporran so he can wear it Friday.(I hope it's not too wet) I used a variation of the braided cantle design that Kevin Kinney was kind enough to have published for us several months ago.

the braided front cantle and the back with the holes punched for braiding.

the front cantle being attached to the fur, the orange is much more vibrant under a camera flash and it won't actually show on the finished product.
