I see lots of kilts at Ren Faires, Celtic music festivals and other related gatherings. Last week I wore one to Episcopal Church for the monthly Celtic service (third Sunday of the month), which also celebrated Burn's Birthday. The celebrant priest and I were the only two men kilts, he expressed his appreciation for me wearing one in the spirit of Burns and Celtic tradition. I have started wearing a kilt to "artsy" venues, and have see one or two other men wearing kilts out of thousands of people attending. I did wear a Utilikilt to a Publix in Fort Myers Beach FL about two years ago, and a Scottish couple also on vacation at Fort Myers Beach, came up to me and asked about the Utilikilt, and how it seemed more flexible for travel than a traditional kilt. I'm not exactly ready to wear a kilt to my local Wal Mart, but have tried to venture where it might be seen as more acceptable attire.

I have worn my Utilikilt around our little town and in one of the popular restaurants. Wife said I was getting a lot of funny looks from people which I didn't notice. I did, get some questions from some folks on another day. They were friendly questions.
I haven't seen anyone else on the street here wearing a UK or any other kind of kilt, however, at the local Irish Festival in the summer, there are tons of men proudly wearing their UK's. So, I know they are around, perhaps I can encourage them to step out on just any old day donning their UK.

First time sighting of another kilty
While at the Sugarloaf Craft Festival at the Dulles Expo Center in Cantilly VA yesterday, I saw anothe fellow wearing a kilt for the first time outside of renfairs of kilt nights. We waved hi to each other. All day people were asking me, "Is there some sort of event going on? There is another fellow in a kilt here today." I was in my olive Amerikilt, and he was in what appeared to be a black Utilikilt. First time ever for me in about a year of kilt wearing.

First time sighting in my neighbourhood:
Out of the corner of my eye as I was driving last Friday night in West Philadelphia I passed a man in what looked like an Irish National or some similar shade of green.
Which one of you was it?

Living in a oilfield town, its full of booze drinking, more-muscle-than-brains, macho men who spend as much time in the gym/bar as they do at work... So sadly, I have not seen anyone but meself in a cilt.
Never had any issues with it, but after a decade in the "patch" meself, I tend to look the part regardless of the cilt I have on. I work in a wholesaler for electrical, plumbing and heating supplies, and have been cilted full time for almost a year now.
I make the odd trip into bigger, real (technicly speaking...) cities... but have yet to see anyone else in a cilt there either.
Wish I had some pics while cilted while on doubles and triples (drilling rigs), but lost them all in a move late last year. (they were on me computer and it didn't make it in one piece. lol)

After a weekend of kilt wearing at the Philadelphia Mid-Winter Festival, we drove back home to Carlisle PA, which is a typical small, central PA town. I wore a kilt on the trip back from Valley Forge. When we got home, I realized I needed a few grocery items. I could have gone to a smaller market, but decided I was tired, and just wanted to pick up what I needed quickly, so I went to the closest store to my house, which is the Carlisle Wal Mart, wearing a kilt. I was by myself, walked in, got what I needed, decided and determined to ignore stares and comments. I worked fast and with stealth, but I made it through! I have gone kilted into other stores in the area, but I knew Wal Mart would be the biggest challenge. I didn't hear any comments or notice stares, but after growing up in this town, I'm quite sure there were comments made, though I could not hear them, and probably more comments were made when I was clearly out of sight. The kilt I was wearing is a casual USAKilt in the Scottish Heritage tartan -- thanks Rocky and Kelly, and congratulations on the beautiful Albannach tartan which debuted at the Mid Winter!
