I have to ask how it is that your aunt happened to have lying around the house, especially if there's no Scottish in your family?

Her husband has some various celtic bits, mostly Irish and Scottish. I guess she had found it at a garage sale and was going to use it for costumes until she found out that I wanted one.

The tartan is really dark, and the blue is nearly invisible indoors, but otherwise it's great.

Otherwise? Otherwise? Isantop, you have really scored a great find. Congratulations. I envy you and only wish that an old fat guy could find such a deal. Enjoy that nice, dark, original Blackwatch kilt.

The Government tartan (official name for Blackwatch tartan) is very dark, and what you have is the original, real deal, Government tartan. Lighter variations are usually, I think, woven strictly as commercial entries. You should be a celebrity at most kilted gatherings, so wear it in good health.

And be sure we get lots of pictures.

Jim: just one wee correction -- Black Watch, not Blackwatch.

    No offense meant,

    Todd
