Steady Jock! Rise above the flat hat jibes and stick to the subject! Day time bow ties are not seen over here with the kilt, well, at least I have not seen them. Why they are not worn, much(if at all) I know not. I think that they ought to work well with a tweed argyll and waistcoat and I will see if I can dig out a bow tie and try it. Without a doubt though, a flat hat and/or white hose would not be worn as well, as that really would be poor form! Sorry, sorry, OK I fell foul of temptation, I really could not resist having a go!

I had nothing to do with the flat cap part of this thread, Jock. I did kind of help cause the bow tie part of it, though. I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Yes, I've noticed... Not that I'm Innocent.

Look forward to what you think on the bow tie and waistcoat.

I thank you for your(in the plural context) concern about my well being. If only people could see a spot of good taste, sense too, and refrain from wearing, flat hats, buckets and white hose with their kilts, my blood pressure may resume it's normal state-----whatever that was!

Well, I'm afraid I don't have any pictures of me kilted with a bowtie, but I'll see what I can do about fixing that.
A few thoughts, though. Personally, I wouldn't wear a solid coloured bowtie outside a formal context. A daywear bow should be patterned. The pattern can be subtle, of course, and Phil and Jamie's photos in this thread show it works fine. The bowtie Phil is wearing in particular I think works with the kilt perfectly.

Since arriving in the UK I've seen a grand total of four bowties being worn (not counting myself). I plan on getting more, when I find ones I like.

					I think they look great.
I don't have any bow ties myself, only one regular black tie for that matter. but seeing how well you all look I think I may have to invest in at least one. I can explain it to my wife as a necessary part of the formal outfit I'm very slowly putting together.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

The only bow ties I have are the Black variety I have been thinking about rectifying that so perhaps a trip to the store is due.
