Having a Porteous in the family tree, I looked for the tartan before and couldn't find it. Nice to see that it's in the tartan register.
Matt or Barb would be able to order the material and make the kilts for you, or you could try D.C. Dalgliesh to order a special run and find another kiltmaker.

Scotweb (advert above right corner of this webpage) has two Porteous tartans listed:

Porteous Modern (custom weave from Glen Affric weavers in 16 and 11 oz wool at around $65 per single width meter):

    http://www.scotweb.co.uk/tartan/Port...hterm=porteous

and Porteous (available from Dalgleish in their artisan line in 12 oz wool at about $50US per double width meter length):

    http://www.scotweb.co.uk/tartan/Port...hterm=porteous

So you should be able to get the stuff, either directly from Scotweb or through your preferred kiltmaker who can contact the appropriate mill for the tartan.

    Hope this helps.

Not playing favorites or necessarily recommending them, but Heritage of Scotland (heritageofscotland.com) lists the Porteus Modern tartan fabric as available by the meter at 28.64 GBP per doublewidth meter of 13oz fabric by Dalgleish, which tabs out at about $40US per meter by current 1.4:1 US:GBP exchange rate available. I have ordered material from them, and even though they say it is in stock, they usually have to contact the mill and have it run special for them, delaying the delivery by a couple months longer than expected, but at least they honor the price the website quotes. The above price does not include shipping or obviously customs (which will kick in on larger orders).

    http://www.heritageofscotland.com/Ta...31,product.php

As I said, I got rare Allen 1996 tartan from them (8 meters SW 13oz Dalgleish) at about $240US shipped, and just seconds ago recieved another 4 meters DW 13oz Forrester Hunting tartan from Strathmore for about $160US shipped), both ordered from HOS when they were having a sale. Each order took about 3-4 months to arrive, a bit longer than originally expected but not unreasonable for unusual tartans, one of which is a special weave.

HOS is a Gold Brothers owned business, and they have a less than stellar reputation on this forum. Many members absolutely refuse to deal with them under any circumstances, and I respect their reasons for doing so. I still occasionally haunt the website for some very special limited availability and specialty quality items, which when I find them on sale at HOS are a very good deal that I could not come close to finding elsewhere. Others may argue, with some validity, that doing any business with them is supporting a company with poor business practices overall. My personal experience is not one of any poor quality or shady deals---just good product at a good price. Each must find his/her own level of moral tolerance in doing business, and never forget-----caveat emptor.

Good luck getting your tartan and kilts, whereever you choose to do business.
