    Clan Cochrane

I am using some of my newly available time (recently laid off) to do some research into my family, and I just unearthed the fact that I am connected to Clan Cochrane on my mother's side. Apparently, my gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-grandfather was John Cochrane, born in Scotland in 1724...

    You know what this means?

    A new tartan and kilt!!!!

Cochranes are a Renfrew-shire clan, with antecedents going back to at least 1262 when Waldeve de Cochrane was witness to a charter in favour of the 5th Earl of Menteith. They have two rather nice tartans, and I believe their chief is Lord Dundonald, which may have caused your confusion.

I'd love to have a kilt in one of the Cochrane tartans at some point, but the rarity of the tartan puts it well out of my price range.

Karrot, guess that makes us absurdly distant relatives, though.
