Point On Blanket Pin?

Should the point of my blanket pin be sharp or a little bit dull and how sharp or dull?

Sharp Ted, sharp. It will cause less damage in the long run. I would not bother about it, one way or the other, quite frankly.

I had just come across a post where someone had dulled their blanket pin so it wouldn't split one of the yarns when putting it through the fabric.

I won't worry about it; however, I did buff out a bit of a bur in the finish on the side of the point before I put it in my kilt.

I'm not a specialist, but it's similar to sharp / round needle tip. It seems, rounded tip is causing less tear, while it slides between the threads rather then poking into them.

So I would say rounded tip is better.

My first reaction, based on my limited sewing experience, was round but not dull. Round-pointed pins are still pretty sharp if you poke yourself with one.

I understand what you mean about the difference between rounded and dull. Still, I have read where the blanket pin may have been used while deer hunting to close the belly of the beast after gutting. For that, it would need to be leather piercingly sharp, I would think?

I did, however, mean rounded when I said dull.

Kilt pins are like wits-- some are sharp and some are dull. I don't think your kilt will care.
