Buckskins and a coonskin cap? Western/cowboy wear? Denim jeans, checkered shirt, rope belt and straw hat (stereotypical Appalachian)? Actually, I think Bigkahuna nailed it.
After meeting Scouts from several other countries at the World Scout Jamboree, his description appears to be the 'sterotypical American/US Citizen' they would describe to us. (I don't want to make this political, just making the observation, but some Central and Southern American citizens don't like to be lumped under the 'American' label when US citizens are being discussed. After all, they are Americans too.)
