Usually if, say, you ordered a 40" waist, that will be in the tightest hole of the strap and you will have 1 1/2 to 2 inches of play. So, you MAY be OK, but best to follow the advice above.

That's what happened to me!! I messed up my back and spent 6 months in bed. That destroyed my metabolism. Before I realized it, I was over 420!! Terrible!! And then I made friends with a guy by the name of Justin. It turned out that ol' Justin is an 8th degree black belt in 2 different styles of martial arts. Thanks to him, I as of tonight am down to under 290 and a green belt in his weird blend of shotokan karate and jujitsu. Of course, I spend most of my week sore. I do three nights a week in his private dojo with he and his assistant instructor grilling me. I would actually weight a lot less, but I'm extremely muscular under the chub. I highly- and I mean highly- recomend a martial arts class. But you have to be really careful of the instructor. Make very sure he or she really understands the physiology. Otherwise, if you're 45 and out of shape and injured, it can do you a lot more harm than good. Look into schools that are affiliated with the International Santen Karate Association (ISKA.)
Oh, and as much as I like Rex and his advice- this time he steered you wrong! Shame on you, Rex!

And does she (the perfect body) pay you any attention now, Rex?
Unfortunately, I've been adding to my waistline in the time I've been not working and seriously need to start dropping some poundage. My own kilt has become quite snug, and I don't relish the thought of having to get it altered. Salads and workouts are becoming a large part of my regimen in the very near future.
Scot, it depends on how many 'a couple' of inches are. If it's really just one or two, your kilt will be snug but should still fit OK. I think most straps will allow for about 2 inches, maybe 2 1/2.

I suggest salads - not sit ups. Eat half of what you're doing now and get more exercise. That's all you can do. I weigh myself every day. That way I know if I move even 1 pound. Then you can make minor adjustments instead of needing inches. Good luck.

What can I say? Fortunately for many of us, there's a lid for every pot.

At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

so fat I have my own zip code...
My free trade out for radio advertising gym membership recently ended and they have no intention of renewing the agreement. Which means I'll have to pay for a membership myself!!! The Thrifty Scot in me hates the thought of that. Might have to go the sit-up route myself.

Y'all can come play my Wii Fit with me.
Just remember to factor in the weight of your kilts. It told my hubby he was obese (he's not) and made his character a big fat guy.

Funny I had a similar problem. I didn't gain wait, but I mis-measured. Fortunately, I happened to have some leather of the correct weight, and made my own extenders. When I lost the weight, I had to take them off. That felt great, by the way.
Use extenders until you can get back down to where you were. It'll fit better once you don't need them, and you feel better when you can mothball them
