I just get the 'dreaded red X' rather than a photo.

I must put up a photographic evidence of my own latest hose project, khaki to go with my camo kilt, which seem to be proceeding just slightly ahead of your hose - otherwise, they never happened!!

If you right click on the red X, you get a drop down menu; choose properties at the bottom; a new mini screen appears; copy the URL and then past into a new window. You will see the picture. It is very good and sharp and BIG.

Got it, yes it is big and what shiny needles you have - I thought they were quite rare - to judge by the reaction of other knitters who were using coated aluminium ones to my own steel ones.

I've noticed that my needles get shinier the more wool I knot. Are yours the same?

Oh belated thanks, Chas for the 'how to' with the photo - I forgot to say, being so pleased to have outwitted the dreaded X.

The shiny steel needles are the very thinnest ones I have, and to keep and store them I rub them with candle wax so as to keep them from fingerprints and even rust during their sometimes long periods of storage.

The waxing keeps them shiny, so I do not really notice any alteration during knitting.

I have some even older ones which are black japanned, though I don't have many of them.

Many of my needles came to me at second or third hand, and could have some age to them, but unfortunatly I frequently found that they had been put away unprotected and had developed rust spots which made them unusable, so I would sort through each batch and throw out the worst ones, then try to do what I could for the rest.

Soaking in a mug of strong tea will loosen a lot of rust.

Layers of nail varnish will fill in nicks and pits.

I am half way up the second leg now, so I must wash and iron my DPM kilt to wear with them once they are done.

My grandmother used to tell a story about an old lady who, at the beginning of WWII, when metal items were becoming hard to obtain, bought herself a new pair of needles "in case the old ones break".
I ripped out and reworked (in ribbing) the foot of my first stocking last night, and worked the toe section in "Eye of Partridge" to make it a little thicker and softer.

My needles are brand new for kilt socks only......they are Hiya Hiya's....
And on the sock front well one is all done and the other half way up so won't be long, I just can't get used to doing the photo thing here but they are on my blog and modelled by my brother's leg......
