14th - 15th Century Scotland
History books inform us of the authors considered opinion to a particular time and date in history, the writings are all to often open to conjecture and misinterpretation by those with intelligence and imagination, as I am lacking in both of these attributes I tend to favour good old hard evidence.
Evidence can be found at Kilmory Chapel
Kilmory Chapel

The evidence is kept under lock and key

In the Napchapel at Kilmory sited at the head of Loch Sween can be found in my opinion, the finest collection of 14th-15th century grave slabs, complete with remarkable carvings and a celtic cross known as the MacMillons cross also dating from that time

MacMillons Cross
Note the sword on carved onto the cross shaft, thought to be of the same design as used by the Knights Templar ?

on the reverse is carved a hunting scene with a woodsman looking on, this woodsman who appears to be wearing kilt, was this cross carved in 14-15th century ?

2 fine fellows, are they dressed in the tradional garb for the area, I think not, perhaps they where Templars, who knows ?

From the chapel a path winds it's way down to a fine beach, with superb views across the Sound of Jura to the Paps

another view

Another of Scotlands well kept secrets, Kilmory is on the road to nowhere, away from the usual tourist routes and attractions, such a significant place, complete with history, missed by the tourist hoards because it's off the beaten track, what a great shame
