Welcome to Xmarks. If you are nervous about wearing your kilt, the best place to wear it is to attend a Highland games or Celtic festival. There you will not be alone as there will be hundreds of other kilt wearers. Then, as a confidence builder, stop somewhere for dinner on the way home. You will be surprised at the non event it usually is. Just about every time I go out in mine, I get absolutely no comment and when I do, it is overwhelmingly positive. As for a small town, I'm 10 minutes away from any town, and that one is just a zigzag in the road. Otherwise my closest human neighbor is about 500 yards away, through the woods. One other piece of advice, go with a traditional style of kilt because people recognize it more easily as a kilt. Also, post a pic here before you go out, so the members can help you make your first trip out the best it can be.

I agree with Jerry; going to highland games is a good place to start wearing a kilt. You might also see if there is a St. Andrew's Society or Scottish Scoiety within driving distance and attend their meetings. If there is a X Marks the Scot kilt night that you can attend go or meet up with other X marks the Scot members.

OK You are going to get a Kilt. A modern or a traditional? You don't have to wear a Skein Dubh to wear a kilt and don't be waving a dirk around unless you are chasing a Haggis.
But first get your Kilt and put it on and wear it to Home Depot and Swagger. and when some little kid ask why is that man wearing a skirt? Pay no attention!!!!!

    Sorry, Got carried away.

Welcome to XMTS from B.C.! As others have said, when you get your new kilt, try it out at one of the highland games nearby. Happy kilt hunting!

This board is crawling with kilted Padres of one sort or another. I'm sure you'll get great support from them.

Some very famous people in the spiritual realm have chosen un-bifurcated garments, and many still do.

So welcome aboard to another Doyle cousin (there be Irish kilts too). Soak up the knowledge, find them kilted Padres for support, kilt up, and sally forth standing tall.

And this board is full of responses to kilt questions.

A preacher man in a kilt is TWICE the preacher man.
