I think we all agree that a kilt can be worn, no matter how your legs look.

Otherwise I would'nt wear kilt at all with my 6" cut over my knee from the Martial arts accident when I was 15. Lots of people mentions it, but with a good story you really get peoples interest.

Having had friends who lived and worked in Japan I know exactly the festival you are talking about.

I have always wondered where people store those 20-30 foot long...err depictions for the rest of the year?

In my mind I have this image of some guy going to his garage and having to move this massive wooden...err...icon stored on some saw horses next to the family Honda to get his shop vac.

I won't even get into the candy they sell at that type of festival!

    Cheers

    Hi Panache.

<sigh>... Ok.... I gotta make this post family-friendly. But I think I can do it!

They store the enormous *ehem* in the shrine that was built for that specific purpose. Every year they carve a new one out of cedar and the old one from the previous year gets sold to a business such as a restaurant, hotel, etc where it is displayed with great pride and it is supposed to bring good fortune as well.

The Japanese do not regard body parts and functions in the same Judeo-Christian morality as we do. They think nothing of parading about nude at hot springs (not co-ed, usually), and depictions of nudity and lewd acts are far more tolerated. It's perfectly common to see businessmen reading dirty magazines on the train, going home from work, as an example.

I brought back er.. phallic souvenirs for all my co-workers here and they didn't even blink twice. They didn't say: "OMG! It's a ******!!!" They said: "Oh, wow, cool! You went all the way to Nagoya to a festival and brought us back treats! How was it?"

As for the candy they sell at the festival? Yeah. Exactly as your imagination might think. There's something really creepy as you walk around the festival watching all sorts of guys and gals (but especially young, attractive ladies) visibly snacking on... candy that is of the appropriate size, color and shape of what you might expect. Disturbing, really! lol

On the positive side, my wounds are healing nicely and most of the bruising has subsided. All is good!
