For the sake of modesty (sitting or standing), I can't imagine going without a sporran. I've got a semi-dress one, a very cheap leather one, and a Nightstalker. On the other hand, if you don't have one and you're going to a rock concert then don't let its lack stop you from wearing your kilt!

John's right about the Nightstalker sporran. Love them zippers and velcro - one handed operation, don't even need to look down. As much as I love the look of traditional sporrans I have a difficult time driving all the pull cords and lining up the magnetic snaps.

Have a black ballistic nylon Nighstalker sporran, a black leather and a brown leather...love 'em for the sheer convenience of them. And, John's right you can stuff them well.

At the office, I usually do not wear one. I find it uncomfortable when sitting at the desk. I really don't need to carry keys, change, wallet etc. while working. Different story when out in public. Outside I need the "pocket" for my stuff.

Wearing a kilt without a sporran is something I do only while at home or participating in some activity where it obviously would get in the way. Otherwise, a good, solid sporran makes the kilt feel like it's truly 'finished', and it's less likely to be confused with a skirt.
