Check out my gallery....I often wear kilts without a sporran on purpose...vests or jean jackets or bomber jackets serve in lieu of sporrans.
Ham's postings about wearing a kilt without a sporran got me started and I love it. Check his photo gallery.
Then I saw this ad which reinforced that it's not weird to wear a kilt without a sporran.

Anyone wanna tell this guy he looks like he's wearing a skirt?
I like that more tartan shows to the front.
Hiking, or walking the mall, I like that the sporran doesn't beat me to death.
Mostly the convenience of not haveing to maneuver into a sporran, rummage around, and reclose the thing.
Ain't no big difference between a kilt with a sporran and a kilt without a sporran - the kilt rules as a kilt.

With a sporran on a hot day.

Same kilt on a cooler day with a vest in lieu of a sporran. Does the kilt suddenly look like a skirt? I think not.
And, I've given up wearing a kilt belt....the straps work fine.
This is just what I prefer. And if its okay with Ham its okay with me.
Feel free to kilt up sporranless.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
