That was a "works" model. Just for the record, I removed the straps from that one! 
Sorta defeats the advantage of Velcro. I have vacillated about the various add-on options, I think I like the belt loops and the stitched-down pleats. Fringe could go either way, but it was very nicely executed on my MacGregor SK.
The new side pockets are pretty nifty, for a kicking around the house and yard kilt!
