Personally, I think this is a dandy solution and will make a handsome kilt. The horizontal stripe is not strong, and the kilt _won't _have the dreaded lawnchair effect. I like it a lot.
In fact, I hope you don't mind that I captured your photo and pasted it below. I think it is a great example of a tartan that pleats well to the "no stripe".

I don't mind at all. Since I'm new to the site, I can't post attachments. Thanks for the words of encouragement.
I think I will proceed with this setup.
Now all I have to do is get tanned leather and hand tool my straps.
I'm trying to incorporate the clan crest or motto on the straps and/or buckles.
Will keep you posted.

Cheers!

It's not an attachment - just a link with some html code. To post a pic, just put the URL for the photo (needs to be posted somewhere like Photobucket) between the code . Does XMarks not allow newbies to post pics??

Thanks!

Those large setts can be trouble. It's always nice when a smaller version of a large sett is available.

Really good solution to a difficult problem. I enjoyed seeing it worked out with Barb and Steve giving suggestions. What a wonderful forum!
