Untill I read all the controversy, I never thought about a flat cap. After that, I went and bought one. Now I wear them all the time, kilted or not.

I have bought 4 more since the controversy began, two in tartan to match my kilts.

I voted for not caring if one wears one or not. I own a black one and it is my usual hat of choice for my normal, everyday attire when a hat is needed outdoors; however, I've never worn it with a kilt. I always wear a Glengarry with the kilt (and no, I've never been nor ever will be a piper).

I guess it's a matter of taste, but I would personally never recommend such a thing...

I like the looks of the flat cap, and love wearing hats of just about any variety, but haven't gotten around to purchasing a flat cap. When and if I do, you can bet it'll be worn both with and without my kilt.

They can also be worn with out the kilt to add a bit of tartan to an ensemble without going the full kilt route.

The mental picture of Rob in a flat cap and NO KILT is now burned into my brain. ARRRRGGGHHHH!

Nope, a flat cap with the kilt doesn't do it for me. I know... "there goes another one of the trad guys, again..." Oh well, 'tis trew.

I like flat caps with kilts, so I voted yes.
A lot of what type of hat you wear depends greatly on your personality and how comfortable you feel in it. I've had occasion to be around people in a variety of traditional and non-traditional hats while kilted and the only time it seems to jump out at me is when they feel awkward or out of place.
My rule of thumb is, be respectful of your environment's (work, church, bowling alley, etc.) dress code, but have fun, life is too short to get hung up on too many societal rules.
