My boy friend of 39 years didn't like me wearing kilts at first (in 2001), but now he is used to it, and prefers tartans above Utilikilts. He refuses to wear one himself.

I can understand prefering the tartan kilts, and even somewhat traditional attire... It's kind of funny to think about because I've been single for so long now. 
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
