The only kilt pin I own is worn on my leather jacket. I don't wear kilt pins on my kilts, I don't want to snag it on something. I might start wearing one with my lighter kilts, but I doubt that I'll ever wear one with my tank.

I like my pins! Though every one of my pins cost 30 +! I wonder does anyone have any tearing in they're kilts due to pins weight? Should I remove my pin when hanging the kilt in the closet? Just an afterthought!
I like kilt pins. I do think they hold the front apron down, at least in ordinary wind. I'm used to the weight there. They are traditional (if only since Queen Victoria--but that's still a century of tradition). It is fun to switch around w/ different styles and symbols. I have my clan crests on both sides, a wheel cross and a Navajo Indian silver & Turquoise pin. I don't think anyone is forcing me to wear a pin...just something that I like to wear with my kilt.
I wear the kilt pin mostly as a piece of flash, male jewelry, usually matched to some other items in my kit. But I often forget it---maybe once every 5 or 6 time I am out kilted---and am not particularly bothered by it. Same with the sgian dhub.
As Gomer Pyle said "forgetful, forgetful, forgetful."
