Yeah it was a UK - Utilikilts worked with him to design it (it was in their monthly newsletter).
I think that going the UK/modern route is probably the best, because it looks more like the pants or shorts that they already wear and can be styled in the same colors. It is more likely to get that approved because it is closer to the uniform than a tartan is.
I wish him luck. I'm sure it will be accepted eventually, kilts just need to be wider known as daily mens wear before they'll accept it though.
I know if I were a walking mail carrier, I'd certainly prefer a kilt than those shorts they have to wear... for both comfort and style.
