I think selling the gear and donating the funds to a charity of the surviving partner's choosing is the sensible thing.

I do as well, Colin...My family are strong supporters of Newborns in Need, for example.

However, since the items are in this case, Highland attire, what better organization to donate them to then one devoted to the preservation of traditional Highland dress?

Just a thought.
