That was a serious observation. A wing collar should be heavily starched and ironed, otherwise it loses its shape. There are some collars that are not supposed to be starched, but I don't think they don't hold their shape as well.

I have two of them and love them. Since they are pre-tied however I would never wear one with a wing collar shirt. Argyle / Braemar jacket, five button waistcoat and fold over collar shirt is the only way I'll wear one.

I wear a cravat to formal events with a five button waistcoat. It's a great look. The cravat looks awkward with a three button waistcoat, you really need the five button to make it look right.

Anyone ever wear an old fashion stock with Highland attire?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Sorry, I meant outside of the historical and reenactment realm... Like with a dress Argyle and five-button waistcoat, or something like that.

Here it is with a black waistcoat (5 button, notched lapel).

The look is great, without being contrived, and there isn't "a whiff of the phoniness" of the earlier photo.
Gentlemen, take note, and do follow Matt's example.

Totally agree. Matt's look is refined, the lines are harmonious and the whole effect is very classy.
