Excellent advice! I was really only familiar with Scotweb as a source of finished products and hadn't known that they dealt in the raw materials of kilting, too.

Awesome. I will check out those reviews, Jamie. Steve's a wonderful human being, and I have all kinds of plans for custom kilts I'd like to talk through with him one day. He made my black dress model kilt, and he's the one I originally planned on having do my tartan kilt. But the idea of a handsewn "tank" was looking pretty romantic there for a bit, so I also was (and still am) considering John as well.
I do take great joy in referring to Steve as "my kiltmaker" when I talk to people about kilts. Even though I have only had him make me one kilt so far.

HA!
And awesome photo, Bradley. My question as to whether or not the weathered kilt can be formal wear is put to rest with that picture! That's a swell tartan.
Thanks again, folks. You all continue to be awesome people.

Certainly weathered tartans are appropriate for formal wear. Here is a photo taken a number of years ago of my wife and me on the way to a ball.
