Don't worry about the white socks with boots. I don't wear white kilt hose (just my personal choice) but I regularly wear scrunched white hiking socks with my boots and kilt.

I went with the white hose scrunched down... in the future I think I'd just go with normal socks... the hose scrunched down made my calves look HUGE!

Which isn't always a bad thing, especially when you have bird-legs like me.

I'm with Jake and wear cheap long athletic socks scrunched down with my hiking boots.
A good thing about white or light colored ones is that when you are hiking and the grass gets tall you can pull them up and easily see ticks and such if this is a problem in your area.

I have gray hiking socks from Sock Dreams that I used to wear scrunched down with my UKs if I wanted to look more casual.
I wear mine up with flashes, and 14 i Gripfast boots, I like the "military" look as well.

If I have to wear shorts with my combat boots (I don't mix my combat boots with my kilt), I just wear the socks issued with my boots. They're about an inch or two taller than my boots, so there's no need to scrunch or wear flashes. They look like a natural choice, since they're paired together by the DoD

I've done the white hose scrunched, but thought it was too much material (especially with my Cadillacs) . . . white socks worked wonders (or "cheaper" hose, by which I mean thinner and more standard sock-like).
Next stop, my kilt and my Rainbows . . .

I do the hiking boots/scrunched socks all the time. I generally only wear the kilt hose on more semi-formal/formal occasions. Then again, 80% of the time I'm kilted is at the house or in a club so the look works fine.
