In my experiences there is no such thing as a "retired" SEAL, just ones who are not active duty There is nothing tougher in this world than a US Navy SEAL. May God bless them all!!

Re: Rule #3, Do not call him "Sir".
The proper response to being called "Sir" is "**** you. I work for a living."
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?

My grandfather taught me that men with strong work ethics are the only men worth calling "sir". He didn't mean the honorific to flatter or slight when he used it, nor do I when I use it. It is just a polite nod to the fact that your ethic is understood and appreciated. That said, I also respect the wishes of men who don't like the honorific and try to remember not to call them "sir".
Either way: "Good on you!"

In the modern EO centered Army I've been told not to say that. After all, it hurts the feelings of the officers by implying that they don't work. On the other hand, the last two newly assessed Captains we've had report to the unit call me Sir.
