Why on earth do you need to slim down? A waist line of 37-38 is nothing unless you are a very short guy. I'm a 42" and proud of it.

When faced with a similar problem I began to make my own kilts, and when I shrank out of them I simply remade them smaller.

If that is not an option for you then the selling and buying smaller is probably going to be the best way to go, or a swap with someone who is going in the opposite direction.

A smaller waist will enable you to find military kilts in your size, and also numerous outgrown ones. Be sure to check the length, though, as at 32 inches you could find they are shorter lengths for the not yet fully grown.

    Thumbs up

If you can take sizes off your waist safely by all means DO IT. Don't keep the FAT there just to keep the kilts. The health benifits out weigh the kilt benifits.
I have sold one of mine already for the same reason and am about to sell another to a kilt friend. So I say GO FOR IT!

Cripes! Go for the health factor and loose the weight and inches while you are still young. The older you get the "Law of diminishing returns" kicks in and you struggle to loose the weight/inches. Get rid of them now and the struggle will be lessened later. The kilts can wait, be altered, sold for newer ones. Every time I think I'm ahead in loosing weight, the behinder I get and am back up to my portly 46".

Yep, do it while you still can. I'm a Type 2 diabetic and my doctor has been trying to get me to loose weight for the past 13 years. I'm down to 240 from my original 260. In trying to do what the doc wanted me to do, I've managed to lower my A1C number from 12.9 to 5.7, so she is happy with that.
