At less than 10 quid we shouldn't expect the definitive work on the history of each and every tartan, Heilanner. Mr Zaczek has written lots of wee books with big titles for the popular market. It's always better to check out the horse's mouth when its there and wide open for you.

You could always write the Lyon Court:

    Or the chief himself:

MALCOLM K MACKINTOSH OF CLAN CHATTAN
    Maxwell Park
    Gwelo
    Zimbabwe

Not a very complete address I must admit so you might try contacting the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs and they could forward it to him:

The Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs
    Hope Chambers
    52 Leith Walk
    Edinburgh

    Gentlemen,
There may be a slight misunderstanding on the Chattan tartans.
Chattan (Clan) Tartan ITI 1851 (Finzean's Fancy) is available to anyone.
Chattan (Chief) Tartan ITI 1852 is reserved for the chief of the clan.

Davidson ITI 1332 is stocked these days in some of the mills (Loccarron, Edgar) due to the growing popularity of kilts.

BTW. the address in Zimbabwe is as complete as they get.

I see you are looking for a casual kilt in one of those tartans. What is your budget? I think that will be the determining factor in making a recommendation here.
I would like to get two eventual, first off I was looking for something like the usakilts or sport kilts..not wool, but also wanted to get a tank as soon as it is possible....

I have a Davidson kilt I would like to sell. I bought it on EBay, thinking it was a Morrison tartan, from the photo of it. (The tartan wasn't identified in the ad.) The buyer said that it was his kilt in a military school. It's quite heavy, probably 16 oz wool. There is a tag that says the cloth is 100% new wool manufactured by Strathmore. Another tag says only "100% wool, Made in Scotland" but not by whom.

The size was advertised as "42 inches and below" on EBay. My waist is (usually) 41" and it fits me well at the largest strap hole.. However, I just measured it with a tape measure, and it measures 37 1/2'' to 40 1/2'' on the inside.

It's pleated to the stripe, the red stripe. There are 27 pleats that are four inches deep. It has a kilting selvedge, and is 23 1/2'' long.

It's in good condition with no signs of wear and tear that I can see.

I will sell it for $150, which would include the cost of shipping via USPS.

    I am in Atlanta.

I did some quick searches to see if something like what you want is out there but I couldn't find anyone offering Davidson in non-wool. I would take Matt's advice and check out the STM's casual kilt offerings, they will be wool and a little bit more money, but well worth it I'm sure. You might even want to save a little more and get one of Matt's box-pleats, from what everbody says and the photos posted here, they are amazing.

Kiltmart had kilts in the Davidson sett for a short while, at only 32 dollars! However, they only stocked them for a short while. I keep looking to see if they will come back in.

It's my wife's clan, so my son would be entitled to wear it. Unfortunately, when they had them he wasn't interested. He only expressed interest in getting a kilt after he had been to a celtic festival. They didn't have any at the festival either, nor even a Davidson scarf for my wife.
