    Hiking on the Navajo Reservation

Doing some uphill sand treking on the rez.

Okay, far enough, that sand is HOT today.

    Upper Antelope Canyon

A slot canyon...just had a flash flood through there last week...cloudy today...kinda stupid...still open, guess the guides need the money. Stayed dry.

Three flags at the check in, Navajo Nation, Arizona, U.S.

Front entrance to the slot canyon. That's my new Tilley hat, out for its first run.

Just inside backlit by the light from the entrance.

    Inside looking up.

Well inside. Its about a quarter mile long and very very narrow.

    The central "cathedral" area.

    Looking up again.

The back entrance, time to turn around and go back.

Beautiful pix Ron. I'd love to get a closer look at the aeolian cross-bedding there, in 3 dimensions.

Back in the 90's I spent a week touring Arizona for the first time and just touched on some of the sights. As an Easterner I was used to green foliage and a view of maybe 20 miles due to the hilly terrain.

Driving from as far north as the canyon to the Mexican border at Tombstone (just had to see it) I was amazed at all the sights ans vistas. It was inspiring. Ron, you captured alittle of what I felt in these pics. Thanks for the great shots!

Amazing geology! Great photos--the light is incredible. Cheers.
