			Scottish Historical Fiction

Hi does anyone know of any good Scottish historical fiction novels?
I'm just finishing a series by C.J. Sansom called the Shardlake series about a hunch back lawyer in the time of King Henry the viii. Brilliant books, but it is English history. I've been looking for something similar to do with Scottish history. Anyone???

 Thanks

 Mark

Anything by Nigel Tranter is a good read. It borrows heavily from actual Scottish history and spans a great chuck of time. You can find information about his books here:http://www.nigeltranter.co.uk/
 Good luck and happy reading,
 Sara

Diane Gabaldon wrote a whole series revolving around the mid eighteenth Century in Scotland and America. "The Outlander" was the first book in the series. They are a bit of a Bodice ripper but she throws in alot of nice historical footnotes.

What about the works of Robert Louis Stevenson, most of his novels are based on historical fact with fictional characters and also giving you a great tour of Scotland at the same time

I can suggest a couple of authors, James Irvine Robertson's "The Lady of Kynachan" and Mary Duncan's "Eyes of Garnet". Both are Clan Donnachaidh members and their books are based around the '45 era. Mary's 3 book series starts in Perthshire and ends in Maine. James is a well know author, historian and humourist in Scotland and his books is based around his family history.
