It seems my congrats were premature, Tony. Sorry to hear about the cock-up. I guess that means you move from a green to a red on the summary below. I hope there aren't too many McKinnon tartans to choose from!

Na Heilthirich, you can move me to the green. I've played phone tag with the CCC for a few weeks now. They have my plaid in-hand now, and we need to finish payments and they'll send it off. My main worry has been what was going on with them (still don't know), and whether they'll still be around. I do like them, and hope they can get it back together.

We got 3 of the six kilts yesterday, the 3 boys kilts. A good sign. Hope to get the other 2 packages with the remaining 3 kilts today. Took less than a week from there to here for the first package.
Kilts are the correct tartan, fit is perfect, quality is better than remembered and expected. The boys were really happy and excited, Mother was also.

Clan McKinnon, would you by chance be the gent I met up at the Enumclaw Games? Or do you stay in SoCal?
Additional on my own CCC matters: I've also been talking with them and have their side of events. I'm not going to go into specifics, as it's not my laundry to air, but the gist is -- they had to consolidate to Scotland for several reasons, the move was messy and protracted and difficult, they've pretty much got it sorted, and fully intend to be around for another thirty years at least.
Tony Miles, I hope you get the dark blue version of your tartan at some point. And maybe a good dyemaster in your area could advise on ways to perhaps darken the blue that you didget...

I would seriously think hard before even considering this option. Garment dying the whole kilt (s) with a blue dye is not the same as getting the same tartan in darker colors. Tartan is thread dyed then the threads are woven to make the tartan pattern. By dyeing the whole garment blue ALL the colors in the kilt tartan will become more blue. Yes the blue will probably darken, but any red will turn purple, any yellow will turn green, any white will turn blue, etc.... You get the picture. You will not simply get a darker blue version of the same tartan you started with---it will shift the whole color palette into the blue range. To get an idea of this effect try holding up a piece or blue cellophane (or other clear blue object) and looking at the tartan through it, as that is what you would get if you garment dyed the tartan blue. If you paid a decent price for your kilt I would not risk ruining it with this technique. If you want the darker tartan order another kilt in the darker tartan---simple as that.
Good luck with it.

For sure - I'm still researching where to get the fabric. No big rush though

Please tell me you were kidding about trying to dye a kilt?

maybe purplish brown - sort of a mix of colors - relieved that we didn't get totally skunked on the deal - disappointed it took almost a year, disappointed on the color, - nice build quality though. So all in all a different good quality vendor may have been a better choice in this case. Hopefully they'll become stable again and worth dealing with in the future

No, I have not been to the games in Enumclaw but just happen to plan to be there at the end of the month for the games. The whole family is looking forward to being there. We just started attending the games last year at the Costa Mesa games in SoCal, now a year later my son is in a band and will compete solo for the first time at the Monterey games the first week of August. We really enjoy the games and hope to have two more of my kids in the band by next season, both on the pipes. My son is a snare drummer and doing quite well at it IMHumbleO.
