Suggestion to recognize old threads

Hay---- I'm getting to the point when some one brings up an old post I think it's new, like a new friend.

Then again it is new for the new members. I know when I joined, this board had been around for some time and there was a lot of things I did not know. Just look at the date of the first post and you can see how old the post goes back.

As a new member here I've been having a grand time going back through some of the old forums and threads and learning a lot of things previously unknown. Learning not only technical things like how to baste pleats, and the aesthetics of coloured vs white hose, but importantly the sense of community that this group has, the sharing of member's fortunes and misfortunes. 'Tis a precious history. I'd be quite happy to see old threads closed off in some way but still available for viewing...if I felt strongly about a topic I can always introduce a new thread, referencing the old if appropriate, and go from there. Just my two cents worth.

Agreed with this idea. Archive threads of a certain age or that are not active for a certain period and highlight/label them as such. They are still available but not open to additional posts. If someone desires to bring up the same topic for a new or different discussion the previous archived thread can always be referenced.

This thread, in itself is a re-hash of a thread I started 1 or 2 years ago. Not that I am unhappy to see it brought up again. For those of us who are old farts, and thus suffer from the occasional memory lapse, some kind soul(maybe Jaime? my memory fails me)told me, there are two little little icons to the left of each thread title. The closest one to the title takes you to the first new post in the thread. The second, if you hold the mouse pointer over it, will show how many posts that you yourself have made to the thread.

You could consider an archive for old threads---still available for pulling up and viewing but not for adding new posts to, and marked as an old archived thread up front when you pull it up on the search engine.

Something like that, lock em and put them in a new forum heading "locked away with honors" or some such, so nothing could be added.

Though I do tend to enjoy some of the elder threads reopening.

And for the other side, (and I feel like bolding this, so there) If we tell people to use the search to find answers, we should expect them to post where they find those answers meaning, if I search for a thread on how to fix a kilt pin, and I find an old thread on fixing one but I still have questions, I shouldn't have to start a new thread, nor should I take a chance that the threads OP is still around here. When I joined here 9 months back, the "kilt dos and don'ts" thread was still active, and it is a quite old thread.
