overheard... on accident
It has been mentioned a number of time that we get 'selective' hearing from wearing kilts, almost a paranoia...
So I am eating my dinner yesterday, and I hear a guy say "Scottish" and a few moments later say kilt, and then he was trying to describe to his kids a rabbit fur pouch thing on the front of kilts. As we were leaving, I stopped and told him the pouch is called a sporran, and he was happy to get a name for it.
The sad thing is that I was wearing shorts because it was a work day.
The selective hearing power of the kilt last a bit longer than when the kilt is still on.

I once had a young lady in an Irish pub point at my white rabbit fur dress sporran and ask rather loudly "What is that big hairy thing with the balls hanging from it?"
After gagging down the mouthful of beer I'd just taken, I told her (and everyone one else within hearing distance) that it was a sporran.

Being of Scottish ancestry I didn't want to waste good ale so I managed to choke it down without spraying the other patrons - though it was near run thing.

it is those anecdotes that make it fun.

It is a good thing I have excellent cardiovascular function.
These little anecdotes could easily finish off someone in a less robust state of health.
It's the way they sneek up that is the real killer.
I have learned not to try to drink and read this forum at the same time.
Oh dearie dearie me.

I was waiting for some friends last night for dinner outside the restaurant when I heard someone say that this has got to be a great place to eat because a guy in a Kilt is eating here.

That's a new one for me, but I like it!
I used to go to a local restaurant called Scotland Yard, sadly now closed. I usually tried to wear a kilt when I ate there and sometimes locals would ask me if I was going to Scotland Yard.

The spirit of the Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) abides today, defiantly resisting any tyranny that would disarm, disperse and despoil proud people of just morals, determined to keep the means of protecting their families and way of life close at hand.
