Jock!
Hope you are making a speedy recovery!
Used to be avid about flyfishing myself, tied my own flies, the whole nine yards, especially good up in Connecticut for Rainbow and Brook. Eyes started going bad so I really had to pretty much give up on it! Idaho is huge here for fly fans, West Virginia as well.
Love the new place, get back to it soon!

Jock,
Thanks for sharing the great photos! Those are some excellent looking fish. I fell in love with the many lochs I saw when I visited Scotland. I wish I'd had the time to do some fishing while there.

Great looking fish, looks like a fun day. It's always nice to hook into something that big on the lake.

Great pics Jock!
Did the trout and the pike come from the same loch? The two aren't mutually supportive of one another in the smaller lakes of northern Canada and parts of the US.
Cheers

I think you are right that pike and trout do not mix well in small lakes. These fish were all caught on Loch Lochy which is about 10 miles long about one and a half miles wide and is reputed to be over a thousand feet deep in places. A big bit of water and nature seems to have sorted itself out all on its own. This is why we think that it is so important to put the fish back and whilst these large fish are not uncommon they should be treated as an asset and well worth preserving. Those of us that fish these big stretches of water get very upset when we hear of these very special big fish not being treated properly. I might add that not all our big lochs have these sized fish in them.

We used to regularly catch large pike on Loch Oich, just next door to Loch Lochy when we were trolling for salmon. We even got trout that were no bigger than the lures - greedy little bu@@ers!
While on the subject, I saw this site the other day offering to sell off the River Garry in 1 square metre plots at £30 each. Might be interesting for any McDonalds out there wanting a bit of their homeland (McDonnell of Keppoch I think) - http://www.myglengarry.com/index.php.
