I can imagine wearing a kilt on duty might be frowned upon. I've had a ride or two in an ambulance, and had that ground-level perspective. 
As the owner of a couple of UKs myself, I can say it's a good kilt if you need pockets. The only thing I'm not real happy with is the narrow aprons. Some other kilt makers use wider aprons, which make for a more comfortable kilt if you're not going to be just standing around somewhere.
