Mid-life thoughts of mortality? I am scared now. I am 30. Starting in 2007 and going almost all the way through 2008 I harvested transplant tissues. I've been fighting with my mortality since then. Maybe if I am going through this mess now I won't have to worry about it again later.
Have fun in Hi with the kilt.

Mid Life Crisis!
Is that what you call all the changes in our outlook on life?
Since I went into my fifties I've started wearing kilts almost full time yet I rarely wore one before that. I've also retired from the legal profession, quit the booze, got my Private Pilot Licence and currently training for a new part time retirement job as a bus driver.
I'd certainly want to do the younger woman thing, the thought of mortality begins to enter my head occasionally and with no immediate prospect of my only daughter producing any grandkids to continue the family line, I'd be enthusiastic at the prospect of fathering more kids of my own if there is an opportunity.

If 57 is midlife then I/ we have a long and stellar second half ahead of us (kilted). Had a Harley (sold it), never much went for the sports car thing, and the wife would shorten my midlife with a crisis( a bash on the head would be apprpriate) if I strayed, fly fishing is another, separate thing unto itself. Kilts... now there's the thing to keep ya goin. Midlife or no, it is a frame of mind, it's cultural, and it shows your pride in your heritage. It is also very comfortable and all the other good stuff we all talk about. So Coastie, be very thankful for the support from home as it is something to cherish.

I'm having a quarter-life... obsession with kilts!
You're lucky it's only your wife you have to convince - I have my girlfriend, mum and sister all trying to talk me out of everything!

Kilts are not only a healthy mid-life crisis neutralizer, they help keep our perspectives fresh. I would say they make us younger, but then we might have to go through the mid-life crisis again...and who wants to give up kilts?

I think Kilted Coastie is on to something. Another thing is that once you're over 40, maybe you're comfortable enough in your own skin to take chances and broaden your perspectives.

Or you're just not worrying about it so much.

But seriously...
Keep always in mind what George Bernard Shaw once said: "Youth is wasted on the young." Enjoy those kilts, and be glad your family is so supportive.

For some of us the Harleys have been way of life, rather than a mid-life crisis (mine started at age 3!!)
seriously though, I get the jest of what your saying
