It's hard to say how long it took me. It was the first time I tried it, so braiding the flap took forever because I was trying to get the hang of it. But once I got the hang of it the pouch probably took a couple of hours to do the actual lacing. That dosen't count the time it took to punch the holes. Punching the holes in the pouch went easier because I got a tool that punches 4 holes at a time.
I got a hold of the book "Leather Braiding" by Bruce Grant. I got it used off of eBay but Tandy sells copies of them new. It's the Spanish Edge Lacing of Three Loops, on pg.68. I have a store bought sporran that had this kind of edging so I wanted to try it on the sporrans I'm making.
