My X-Kilt questions and progress

Argh I seem to be having problems finding buckles for my straps..... What is the name for those smaller type buckles??? (there is a picture of the kind I want in the the manual on Andres Papouseks Kilt...)

And I think I might have done my big underpleat wrong... it looks fine wearing it but just doesnt seem right for some reason...

Not sure where Andres got those nice ones but they are shaped like "vest buckles." I've seen them in gold-tone and silver, not the brass that he shows. Googling "brass vest buckle" brings up some possibilities. . . good luck hunting!

yea most the "vest buckles" I have seen seem to be thinner and have little teeth on them his are beefy looking and smooth

The RevK just needs to be symmetrical in appearance, I see no reason why you couldn't run extra pleats under the left side. You just need to have the same number of visible pleats from center back to apron edge on each side.

How many pleats do you put under the right side? My kilts just have the one deep pleat under the right side, and it's mostly hidden by the A-taper of apron anyway. Any rationale for putting more pleats under there? Inquiring minds and all that.

I take the pleats under on the right for two reasons. First is so that Scooby's kilts can grow with him. The other is more complex, my first xkilt looked funny when I finished it; I'm not sure whether it's the way it's tapered or exactly what, but I ended up adding a false pleat on the left and since I hadn't cut it down adding one on the right to match. I guess I like the look of a full pleat under the apron and I want it to be symmetrical.

I have yet to make any kilt with a fringed edge, I have one I bought that way. My favorite kilt belt is the studded Dickie's in black leather that I picked up when a local department store was going out of business.

You know I was fiddleing with the underpleat and I really didnt like how it was working either on the left side... prolly something I was doing wrong but it just didnt want to hang the same way on the left side for me... Now for some reason(I SWEAR I measured correctly) my kilt came out just a tad large through the waist... large enough that I am able to cover up a good amount of the last pleat on the right...and I LOVE the way that side of the kilt looks... So I think I am going to so some ripping out of seams and turn my big pleat into a small false pleat and then a smaller big pleat I think the whole thing will hange much better and look more symmetrical....

Sounds to me thats more or less what you did by adding that extra pleat to the right and cover it with the apron..

Well the kilt is done!!!!!

I ended up adding another pleat to the left side under the overapron and then seeing it made the big pleat to small to lay right I added in a tapered width of material lengthening the big pleat back out.... now it fits great!!!

Basicaly I have a full pleat on each side that the over apron mostly covers and I think it adds alot to the look (especially with a narrow apron) I have decided to go with no pockets on this one though I may add some removable ones in the future..

Best best of all its done in time for the celtic festival I am leaving to go to here in a few!!!
