    [quote=Farlander;768507]

    I do not see many more stories of where other clans got their name from. quote]

    The name Chisholm is said to be derived from a Norman French word "chese" meaning "to choose" and the Saxon word "holm" meaning "meadow.”

    thats what some sites say how my surname came about i think its more to do with the name of the area they came from more than anything to be honest Ive always thought holm meant hill in old Saxon
    if you stick Chisholm into google earth you get ravenbourne(MELROSE) and just south of that is two large hills or old forts? (perhaps someone in the borders knows the hills name) so i assume it was something to do with being in control of those forts......... again this part is pure speculation on my part i can only assume from a practical train of thought that this is where my surname came

    I suppose it makes sense...
    Hmmm, this makes more historical sense than what I had in mind, and makes for an even better story! I like it...

    I wonder what the Mrs. will think?

    Of course! After all the Romans were painting themselves with tomato paste and running through the streets with giant pizza pies on their heads. What do you expect the clan to do?
    I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
